about

A tribute to James Halligan and Dominic Daley, accused, tried, convicted and hanged for a crime they had nothing to do with. Their only guilt being Irish Catholic immigrants in a land in intolerance.

lyrics

In the winter of eighteen hundred and five, two recently immigrated Irishmen left their surrogate homes in Massachusetts bound for Connecticut...... they never made it.

They set out from Boston on a cold winter's morn
New Haven was in their sites
So far from Erin the place they were born
Two ladies so full of life

And the road
It surely did rise

The highway would welcome this unwanted team
When lives of men can be sold
For face down in Springfield by the banks of a stream
A Lyon's young body lies cold

And the facts
Get riddled with lies
When you seek
With pre-judging eyes

No thought of the cost their lives might be lost
Or story need ever be told
Take my advice you'd better think twice
Before you go down The Auld Gallows Road

The posse was called up a manhunt begun
To search along the highway
The only proof needed is In God we trust
And faith in the mouths of babes

When nothing
Is within a name
And you
Will be the one who takes blame

They set up for trial with unbiased jury
Who laugh at an innocent plea
Pope loving Paddys that cling to a rosary
Was all the evidence they need

Townsfolk would gather ten thousand or more
To watch them swing from a rope
Oppression they fled from upon their own shore
Was found on The Auld Gallows Road

No thought of the cost their lives might be lost
Or story need ever be told
Take my advice you'd better think twice
And don't go down The Auld Gallows Road

We may forgive but we will never forget
When you speak their names in a sentence of death
May they remain no matter how long or old
And to hell with your Auld Gallows Road

about

The O'Maolegain Rake New York

O'Maolegain, a "celtified" surname derived from half-hisrorical, half fictitious origins and the term "Rake", used in a historical context, is a term short for "rakehell". A man who was habituated to immoral conduct, wasting his fortune on gambling, drink, women and song. Which defines this project to the letter. ... more
